Cradlerock School General PTA Meeting
February 5, 2009 - 7:30pm

Snow Removal – The Lower School black top is hard to clear.  Primary areas for snow removal are the front, sidewalks and paths.  There is a 4 hour window to clean grounds.  When the task is beyond what school custodial crew can do then the Howard County Grounds Crew is called for assistance.  There was a suggestion made that maybe parents could help clear the paths.

Valentine’s Day – Activities will take place on February 13, 2009 and only in the lower school.

Guest Speaker:  Arlene Harrison, Elementary Administrative Director, assigned to  the Blue Cluster Schools which includes Cradlerock School.  She is new to her position.  She asked about the Cradlerock Study which studied the changes in the school since it was consolidated into one PreK – 8th grade school.  The survey included students, parents and staff.  There was not a huge jump in test scores.  One theme was consistent in study and that was the need for more administrative staff.  Most of the issues were in the middle school involving discipline, but you hear that at ANY middle school.  The purpose of the study was to look at how to move forward.  So, the focus is on academics, especially mathematics.  Cradlerock School did meet the AYP.  Office referrals and suspensions have decreased.  As a result of the study the school will receive $13,000 for books, $40,000 for language arts supplies and additional math position for the middle school.
